I'm not shure what you mean by "set-up out of the
box", but RH 7.3 and a few other distros come with xawtv on the CD's. On
my RH 7.3 box it was pretty easy. The Avermedia Aver98 card was detected
at boot and the module loaded, rpm -i xawtv, watch tv.

The only difficulty I had with the card was that the first box I put it
in had too much hardware going on already and I ran into resource
conflicts.

I have heard that the Hauppauge cards are fairly easy too, but you may
not find drivers to take advantage of all the features on the newer
cards.
