I haven't tried this particular reader, but the ones I have tried have
been plug-n-play on RH 7.2, 7.3.

This from Kingston Tech:

6.3 SECUREDIGITAL (SD) CARDS
SecureDigital, introduced in late 2001, is a second-generation
derivative of the MultiMediaCard standard (see section 7.4) that is
backward-compatible with MultiMediaCards. The SecureDigital format
includes several important technological advancements over
MultiMediaCard (MMC). These include the addition of cryptographic
security protection for copyrighted data/music and a 4X increase in data
transfer rates. The SD Card Association sets the specifications for
SecureDigital cards.

So these seem to have available a method of encrypting the data stored
so that only authorized devices or software can read it, similarly to
copy protected CDs or DVDs. If it's data you store, however, you
shouldn't have any trouble accessing it.
