Subject: configuration file changes

I am working in a situation where the config files changed from one version
of the program to another. Is there a reasonable way to write a script that
would put the old config file entries in a file, then insert them into the
new config files?
An example might be:
=old config file=
IP=192.168.2.5
NAME=Mike
=new config file=
IPADDRESS=
FIRSTNAME=
LASTNAME=
Obviously I want to move the IP to IPADDRESS.
This is way oversimplified but the ideas is there.
