i just picked up a mint condition ibm pc110 on ebay which came with the
main unit, the docking station, floppy drive, 2 batteries, ac adapter,
viper 260MB type II pcmcia hard drive and a carrying pouch. paid $400
for it so they've definitely come down in price from last i saw them on
ebay (when just the main units went for about $300). perhaps people got
tired of looking just to never turn up any results and happened to miss
this one. about two years ago you could sign up to the pc110 mailing
lists and wait for someone to post notice they're selling theirs, but
the lists have long since died. i'd say your best bet is to keep
checking auction sites because that's the only place you're going to
find them anymore. if a legitimate dealer got a hold of one, it'd be
cheaper to sell your first born child than to pay what they'd ask for
it.
on a side note, if you do find one make sure you pay attention to form
factors. i almost ordered a 1gb ibm microdrive to use in the compact
flash slot before i read a little more and found out that the pc110 has
a type1 (3.3mm) slot, and the microdrive is a type2 cf card (5mm).
SanDisk came out with a 1gb type1 cf card last year but it's still a bit
expensive at $600.
they run linux perfectly if you can get enough storage into them to
accommodate a decent size installation, though i've seen linux installs
made to the 4mb internal sandisk. slackware is what i'm installing on
mine, but they can run a wide variety of operating systems including
linux, *bsd, os/2, dos, win3.1, win95 and win nt. if you want any other
information about these, let me know i've done a ton of research on
them...
