not exactly sure what was wrong, but i ran galeon-bin in a terminal and
let it go just to see if it wasn't running due to some ridiculous lag. i
forgot about it and moved onto other things and when i remembered about
it i killall -9'd it from that terminal rather than ^c'ing it from the
original. well, upon running it again it popped up with a "galeon either
crashed or was killed last time" message and after telling it to
disregard the last session and start over it popped right up, ran me
through a little "we've changed bookmarks format" routine and now all's
well. who knows how or why this fixed it, but it worked...
