Subject: Marital problems with my laptop

I like to have my laptop on at my bedside, it isn't as
noisy as the usual desktop, but the particular model I have
(Toshiba Satellite 2805-S301) accesses the hard disk about
every 20 seconds which makes an annoying clicking sound.
It's like someone swallowing really loudly all the time.
How can I find out which processes are causing these disk
accesses so that I can stop them? (I am running Debian
testing if that makes a difference).
