I have been using ext3 on RH7.2 and Man8.1 and it seems OK, I haven't
really put to the test with a power outage yet. Stan on the list seems
to like his Rieser fs under Suse. The thing I like about ext3 is that it
can be mounted as ext2 in a pinch although according to the reports I've
read, it's one of slower methods of journaling.

As far as getting together on which fs to use. If its my filesystem on
my box, what does it matter that its not the same one you're using? As
long as we have standards for media exchange.

Microsoft has 4 or 5 (I loose count) filesystems out there. fat16,
fat32, a couple of variants of ntfs and there are apple filesystems.
Just choose the one you like.

btw - Why are you pulling stuff out of the cooker to put on a box to
give to the linux uninitiated? It seems like one of the standard,
released, distros would be a lot simpler. Mandrake 8.1, RH 7.2, and Suse
7.2 will all install a journaling file-system during the install and be
a heck of a lot easier for the uninitiated to use and you to support (if
you give them this, they will call).
