hmmmmm... serial connections on the back of a computer are typically
male (both the 9- and 25-pin varieties), so the adapter cable would need
to be female on the 9-pin end and male on the 25-pin end - at least that
is my guess at your situation - please fix if i'm wrong..

[computer-male9][female9---cable---male25][female25-robot]

On the other hand, we are probably worrying way to much about this.. i'm
sure if a couple people each brought a couple various adapters, we could
  figure out the connetion we need.. :)
