Autodesk (makers of AutoCad, 3D Studio, etc) does this as well. Several
other companies (HP is one) use similar ideas, but implement a web-based
forum rather than "classic" newsgroups.
Cheap for the companies, and many times the people in the forums know
more about solving your problem than the tech support folks do.. :)
