Yes you can boot from a floppy and install all you need. I would
recomend you pull the hard drive out, connect it up to a fast(er)
computer and do the install /kernel config there.
Dosemu works pretty good. I have been using it on and off for years
and have had little trouble with it. You can give access to serial
with little problem just by editing the config file (/etc/doemu.conf ?)
