Does your fstab file have a /mnt/cdrom listed? IE:
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0
if it doesn't you might want to add that to you fstab file and that
will basically auto mount a cd whenever you insert it and auto unmount
when you press eject or type eject.
That would be a start, if that doesn't help, then we can go from there.
