Well, since Java is freely available, the impetus for a free software project
to duplicate it has not been as great as it should. It is a very needful
thing for commercial distros to finally become something the Free Software
Foundation can endorse, but no one seems to have the time.
Civileme
jdk can be downloaded from SUN and there is an emacs file for formatting the
code.
