Mike,

The linksys boxes are sort of famous for messing up with ports
greater than 1024. Two possible cures, depending on the firmware
revision of your Linksys:

        1. Set the address with the FTP server to the DMZ address. Yes,
all the services on this box will be exposed, tough, the linksys is not
very bright, what do you want from a three hundred dollar firewall?

        2. Use the port pass-through feature to expose all the ports you
can starting at 1024 and moving upward. If there is not a lot of
activity then you might be able to match the limited range of addresses
that FTP would get. Wouldn't want to depend on this.

At one point Linksys's web site said they were going to
"improve" this. There may be new firmware to take care of the problem.

                Yours,
                John B.

Doesn't passive mode require all ports > 1024 be open on the server
side?
Or some mechanism for opening the specific port (> 1024) that the FTP
server
specifies with PORT P. Then the client will be able to connect to that
port.

Cheers,

James
