[aklug] aklug Digest, Vol 12, Issue 5

Thank you for the feedback.
Mike: Great idea. All FOSS should be on the table. My goal is to learn more of the Open Source world, and get involved in the community.

Christopher, and Jeremy: I would be happy to setup a messaging/conference server. I have setup multiple Openfire systems in the past (https://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/). It has always been a reliable solution for me for IM and one-to-one video chat. I am not really sure how many I can load up on the system for Video, as I have never pushed that too hard before. Could be a fun experiment.

Greg: If you have a more convenient day, please let me know. The reason I mentioned the 2nd Thursday of the month, I learned the following info as the VP of the Anchorage Chapter of the Association of IT Professionals (AITP, www.aitpalaska.org):
1. First week of the month tends to be difficult
2. Wednesdays tend to be booked up for many people (church groups, boy scouts, girl scouts, other professional organizations)
3. The Tex R Us conference room is booked on 2nd Tuesday of the month (AITP).
Beyond that, whatever day (or week #) is the best for us, I am happy with. (selfishly, I am out of town the first week of January, and I really want to be at this). 😊

Thanks everyone. I am excited about this. This is or all of us, so keep the feedback coming.

Thank you,

Ryan,

I'd be happy to help with the meetings and think this is a good idea.

We may want to consider including things like using Open Source to drive 3D printing, Robotics, etc.

Our group has a long history of working with all kinds of Open Source even though a good majority of the conversation has centered around Linux.

Thanks for making this effort.

I'm in Fairbanks, but could drop into an IRC chat room about that time.
Also, if there was an audio stream I could listen in on, then I could participate to some degree.

P.S. I'm one of those Stallman-style free software purists, so I don't use Skype, Google Hangouts, or whatever the popular proprietary communications tool is now. I've heard about a few tools like Apache OpenMeetings, but don't know anything about them yet.

I have appreciated how the list connected me not just to Linux users but
other open source projects as well, particularly those that depend on the
Linux ecosystem.

I've never been able to attend a meeting in person. We just need
telepresence bots — a tablet on a Segway.

I am not a Stallman-style anything, certainly not a purist. Stallman needs
to fix the security on his blog engine for one thing.

Cool, the second Thursday does not work for me, otherwise thanks for doing
this.
