To build on this.. there used to be a loopback module that grokked
partitions. I'm not sure if that's still a thing. I know there have been
a few attempts to make this doable.
One thing I noticed was that the network block driver supports partitions
just fine now. Shows how long it's been since I've really used it for
anything. I've used this for accessing partitions a bit more automagically.
There's also iscsi.. and ataoe :) Both of those can present partition maps
to the host operating system.
