I totally agree. I thought it would be cool to say I run my own mail server. It was more work than I thought it would be. Wasn't very reliable either. Again, not enough resources. 

I use google for my email.

After several years of admin'ing mail services, my 0.02 is: pay for google
apps.  You will expend more than $5/user/year (or $50/user/year) trying to
keep your system up and spam free.  Mail is one of the areas I *never* want to
go back to admin'ing, if I can at all help it.
