Can they be upgraded to more RAM?

As is, possible thoughts are:

Portable fileservers if used with USB externals
Thin clients
Email stations
I've acutually used a slower laptop to burn CDs using a PCMCIA SCSI control=
er, so that might be a possible use
Portable security scanner to detect holes in networks
Firewall/router
