[aklug] Why the stack size limit?

Normally, I do not like to cross post lists and forums, but there is an
issue that has been bugging me and no one yet has been able to provide a
decent answer. It is sort of a historical question, and I'm hoping one
of you ancient *nix wizards might happen to know:
