Also.. I've always thought this was interesting..

Store metadata on low latency filesystem and retrieve from disk or tape. Somebody should
totally make an off site tape data center to show those amazonians whats what.

Also.. XFS supports DMAPI.. I've never had a reason to use it but I'd love to some day for
archiving. It wouldn't be a tape interface.. but it would allow me to transparently
access high latency blocks.
