I had nothing but trouble with GSM coverage where I live, but CDMA
phones work great so I was happy to switch to a HTC Hero a year ago.
Good phone, good voice coverage, oh, and it does some internety stuff.

I won a Motorola Milestone in a contest and immediately rooted it,
overclocked it, and customized the heck out it. I gave the Hero to my
wife, who really appreciated having a CDMA phone instead of her GSM
phone. It allowed us to ditch our landline at home, which we were
really only keeping because GSM coverage where we live is horrible.

I would never ever want to go back to the Hero, having played Angry
Birds on the overclocked Milestone. :D
