You'll be good to get PHP Design Patterns from the creators of the PHP magazine. Then there is a bible sized PHP v5 boat anchor that will help.
I strongly recommend going into.it with OOP in mind.

Look at Zend Framework and Kohana Framework

Subject: [aklug] PHP class?
To: "aklug" <aklug@aklug.org>

I've been tinkering with PHP for years now, and would like to take a class in
it. Anybody know of any online classes that are not solely online? I need a
physical paper book to read, but the rest I can handle being online. If it don't
offer a physical paper book though(meaning no ebooks), it won't do me much good
I'm afraid. I'm too old school lol.

Thanks
