Something I found to be incredibly useful is downloading the glibc source and poking my
nose around. You'd be impressed on how many of its components rely in files in /etc.
It's good enough information that it stays in the back of your head until you desperately
need it. Keep in mind that the default behavior is to treat a file as though it were
blank if it was missing (in most cases).
Don't try to compile it unless you have a few hours free.
