[aklug] DSL too large

Hey, I have this side project going where I am installing Linux on a
virtual machine with 32 MB of RAM and 80 MB drive space. (Probably LFS,
I'm thinking. Never tried this sort of thing before, to be honest.)
Anyway, I guess I need a live OS to boot into so I can install the
permanent OS. I can boot up with DSL using "lowram" and "dsl 2" boot
options, but it takes 90% of the available RAM to mount the ramdisk.

I was wondering if there was another Linux ISO I could boot into that is
more lightweight. I see lots of these ancient floppy Linuxs, but I am
afraid that the software is old, and I don't know how to create and boot
into floppy images.

The alternative, I guess, would be to learn how to compile and assemble
the system, and then turn it into an image that could be booted into. I
don't know how to go about doing that, to be honest. :]

Aside: I'm not trying to create a desktop Linux in my VM. If I end up
with a shell, a C compiler, and the ability to send packets through a
network interface, I'll feel like I accomplished something.
