I did see something along the line of pulling the drive, installing the
OS and re-installing the drive.

With that box having available resources of: 150MHz Mips & a potential
max of 64MB of ram (don't know how much it currently has), I don't
believe it will be practical to get too carried away on upgrading the
OS. It might be pretty well maxed out w/ something in the 2.2.x kernel
series.
