That last one (email) went before it's time :-0
Anyway ...

Mike B brought along a couple of Qubes and we spent a little time trying to
get things going on them.

The first one we were playing with, we got onto OK and immediately managed
to delete some directories in /home we shouldn't have. Forgot web stuff used
to be in /home/http instead of /var as it typically is now days. So we then
attempted to restore from a restore CD Mike had brought along as well. Had
some problems there.

The restore CD is intended to be booted up on another box that is then
treated as a network boot server for the Qube. The linux on the boot CD had
issues booting on newer hardware. Not too surprising as the Qube's OS seems
the be RH5 (2.0.x kernel) based. We went through a couple of boxes before
finding something the boot the restore CD.

We never were able to get the Qube to actually start it's net boot process.
We suspect the old 2.0.x kernel was having difficulty speaking to the newer
network card and kept us from being able to get a DHCP server going to start
the process.

After Mike left, it occurred to me to boot the restore image in vbox. The
restore image booted smoothly in vbox, but I was still unsuccessful at
getting a net boot going.

Despite this, I think this is going to be the way to do this. I believe the
vbox virtual hardware is generic enough that it will have a better chance of
running this than anything else I could come up with on a practical basis.

What I think I am having a problem with and could use some pointers on is
vbox's networking. I am pretty certain vbox is capable of serving an outside
network, I'm just not experienced enough to set it up. I'm hoping someone
here can give me some pointers.

When the Qube restore CD comes up, I need it talking (serving dhcp) to the
wired network port on my laptop.
