Things I like about Emacs:

* Nifty keyboard commands, great for quick navigation and text manipulation.
* Syntax coloring and auto-indentation.

Things I don't like about Emacs:

* Emacs lisp. I can't bring myself to learn Lisp /just/ for the purpose
of programming my text editor.
* Almost never installed by default.
* Slow loading. Add a few extensions, and on a slower system, start up
can take 3+ seconds, which is practically an infinity in programmer time.

So, there are a few things I'm not happy about with Emacs, but I love
the key combinations, and I get a lot of work done with Emacs. I've
tried other editors that use Emacs key-bindings, but none of them have
been as good as Emacs. Unfortunately, with all the modern editors that
are popping up in the Linux world, there doesn't seem to be any movement
to revive the Emacs bindings.

Everybody these days seems to want the paradigmatic Windows approach --
accomplishing everything with slow, clumsy mouse movement.
