I was bitten on the rear by a change in Ubuntu; 09.04 recognized my wireless
card and set it up properly.
09.10 did not -and it doesn't recognize my Marvell card either.
If you're in a similar boat I found a pretty easy fix over on the ubuntu
forums:
(original link: http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1288865 )
1) Open Synaptic Package Manager
2) Ensure 9.10 LiveCd is in CD drive
3) Settings > Repositories > Ubuntu Software
4) Check the "installable from cd and close"
5) Refresh
6) Search for "bcmwl-kernel-source"
7) Mark for installation
8) Install it
9) Reboot computer
I got errors on step #5, but I ignored them and my wireless works.
They include the driver on the cd, I have no idea why they decided against
activating it (or even simply allowing it to
show up in the Hardware Drivers program); at least it's easy enough to work
around.
Hope this saves someone else some hassle.
