The directory

 /var/lib/bluetooth/00:1E:58:3F:5C:85

already exists - it is created by the HCId when I plug in the D-Link
Bluetooth Adapter. I entered the command

 cd 00\:1E\:58\:3F\:5C\:85/

to get into the directory. The file "pincodes" did not exist, so I
echoed the MAC Address and PIN number into it to create it.

I think there is a few typos in the post, perhaps causing confusion.
I'll go back and edit that.
