Is that your post or someones that is similar to your problem? the
point made on the reply is a good one....even if you are changing the
permissions, whatever Gentoo uses for HAL related stuff could be
changing it back or to something completely different.

Check your group memberships and other permission setting for that device.

Turn up logging on the udev stuff and see what pops out.
