I got the 2.6.26 source from the debian repository, went through make
xconfig, the make module_install, and the make install. Then I edited
grub to have an additional entry for the new kernel. The "old" kernel is
2.6.26-2, so I left that intact so I would have something to boot into
if (when) my new kernel didn't book.

First question (minor): Do I have to make a new initrd image? Or can I
just tell grub to use the old one? If not, could someone point me in the
right direction for making a new one?

Second question (major): The new kernel starts to boot, but it fails
because it does not attempt to decrypt the rest of the dm-encrypted
disk. I'm guessing this is because during the xconfig I left the
dm-crypt module at its default setting of "module" rather than
installing it into the kernel, and the entire system (including the
/lib/modules directory) is encrypted.

If I reset xconfig so that Device Mapper Support is install directly
into the kernel, and then recompile, will that fix the problem? Or is
something else / more that I need to do?
