[aklug] MP3 players

I've never bought a portable MP3 player (like an Ipod) before, as I never
have any money. But my dad wanted my advice on which brand to buy for my
sister.

I really wanted to recommend a device that could interface with the
computer (for adding music) in a manner that was platform independent.
But it seems like everything I've looked at on internet says it requires
either Windows or Mac. (Without, of course, being specific as to why...)

If it was me, I'd spend days looking to make sure to get a portable device
that could run MP3 and OGG, had a platform independent interface, ran an
OS I liked, etc. But for my sister I guess it would just be enough to be
able to recommend something that doesn't require Windows/Mac software to get music
loaded onto it.

Any thoughts/insights/suggestions for me? I was thinking in the range of
$50 to $100 dollars, ideally with some kind of screen.
