[aklug] diffs on ubuntu install cds?

Quick newb question:

There are apparently three ubuntu variations, desktop, server and alternate. I
understand that the alternate install is for when you want to do something a bit more
sophisticated on your install, LVM, encryption, stuff like that. But I notice that
there is not an 'alternate-desktop' iso or an 'alternate-server' iso.

Does the 'alternate' install CD incorporate the elements of both the desktop and server
installs?
