I'll tell you that I just recently bought a laptop with Vista
installed and it was *much* easier to boot into Vista and use their
disk tool to resize the partition then install Ubuntu.

It worked fine, the only thing I might have done differently was not
take the default resizing as Vista split the disk in half. I did read
that you need to be careful when you specify the partition size that
you don't make it too small. Vista will happily resize the partition
but then it can't boot because it's too small.

I don't know what the actual requirements are for the minimum disk
size, that's an exercise left for the reader :)

I left Vista installed because I do cross platform development and I
thought I could use a virtual with the existing partition to be able
to test it on Windows when I needed to, but that's not looking as easy
as I thought. I *think* the paid version of VMWare is the only thing
that can do that. Info to the contrary would be welcome.
