I'm pretty sure Josh and the others are right. This is a managerial/accoun=
ting/marketing decision (or trial balloon at the very least). Yeah it does=
 suck that they don't have the honesty to call it that, instead blaming the=
 technos. (how many times have you been told 'computer glitch'?).

Speaking off the cuff, and just my opinion, but I'll bet very little of the=
 customer base even knows what a newsgroup or nntp is, except a few dinosau=
rs and uber-technos. All the kidz use some web2.0 whizbang 3G IM something=
 or other. I imagine what the hypothetical isp will do is stop providing =
the nntp service and refer the few that call them on it to supernews or som=
e such pay service. From their point of view it's shifting the cost of a l=
ittle used except-maybe-for-pr9n service from them to the people that actu=
ally use it.
