Okay here is MS view of interoperability from:

Notice they say they support industry standards, but, .odf is the ISO=20
standard not .docx. The .docx format or is it ooxml? has patents that MS=20
has said they will not enforce against 'non-commercial' use. IANAL, but I=20
don't get a warm fuzzy feeling from the announcement.

principles and corresponding actions across its high-volume business=20
products =E2=80=93 Windows Vista (including the .NET Framework), Windows Se=

2008, SQL Server 2008, Office 2007, Exchange Server 2007, and Office=20
