Doug, I'm curious what did Gimp not do? It's been a while since I've used
Gimp. I stopped using it because it stripped out all my EXIF metadata, had
no support for Canon Raw format, and poor support for Color Management but I
think they may have fixed those issues. I may give it a try again. Several
years ago I tried to use Linux for all my photography stuff. I tried hard
for a year but in the end it just would not do what I needed so I switched
to PaintShopPro and Photoshop on Windows.

BTW, ImageMagick is one tool I could not live without. On more than one
occasion a guest speaker has brought me a CD with numerous huge files to
display. I was able to resize them and convert to jpeg in about one minute
while the crowd was watching, saving the day. At work our website uses it
on the server with Ruby on Rails to convert millions of tif images to pdf on
the fly.
