Shane, this should have unpacked the files into a directory structure
that you would then point vmplayer at the virtual machine config file.
Something like:

vmplayer <directory>/<vm config file>

of course substituting the directory and the name of the config file
respectively.

These steps worked for me (it took about 45 minutes to download):
(from my home directory)

# its about 180 MB
wget ftp.aklug.org:vmplayer-nevaeh.bz2

# unzips to about a gig (as Jon already said)
tar jxvf vmplayer-nevaeh.bz2 # When it asks, you will want to choose
'Create' to create a new ID
vmplayer BaseHalloween/Base-Halloween.vmx

The default config will start and the root password for that image is:

usethesource.

Hope that helps.
