How about we just write a message, in reply to a correct message ID so
threaded mail readers can do their job. How about just deleting the
rest of the message at that point as well for list related
conversations (yes I am using gmail). It stays relatively on topic
most of the time, and when you go off topic you should say so :). If
you see a message thread you want to reply to but somebody has already
gone off topic you should reply to the last on topic message to keep
threading easily organized.
I will never ever adhere to this because I am a lazy bastard. But hey
what if :)
