Perhaps not.

Once when I had stupidly erased a file on a mac, I was able to
recover the data by writing an app to search datablocks on the
drive for keywords. Since files are usually physically located
in successive blocks, I copied successive blocks until the pattern
of data changed, for example from alphanumeric to something else.

A more laborious method would be to map the filesystem of the pen
drive looking for relevant files. This requires some knowledge of
file system details.

These methods involve reading the pen drive as a large file. There's
certainly a way but I leave that to wiser heads than mine. Right
now I'm in a wood cutting mode and then I have to align a big laser.
The man from Coherent just installed a new tube. He said an even
bigger laser in Las Vegas used so much power they used the discharge
from the water cooling jacket for a jacuzzi.
