suggest a laptop

I recently purchased a piece of poo laptop. Luckily I can return it
and only eat the shipping costs. If anyone has recommendations I would
like to hear them.

Preferences: sub $1200.
Screen 15"
Graphics: enough to run 3d accel, DVD's, no gaming
Memory: 512
room: 20+ gig
dvdrw, mobo bootable usb or floppy, nice keyboard and mouse, wireless,
etherlan, prefer fully linux compatible, cool & quiet more important
than power

what about linux on mac, worth the extra cost?
