mysqld (sock problem)

I install MySQL Server on a FreeBSD server we have and have to get mysqld to take any passwords, etc.

It's one of the problems with the mysql.sock?

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'

There isn't any my.cnf files on this server yet also.

Anybody running mysqld on FreeBSD that can help?
