Agreed. My Thinkpad 600e (P2 333) works great with Linux.

I was looking at the T42 myself a while back (it was between that and
one of the small Sony Vaio's) but ended up deciding I didn't need a new
laptop after all.

If you want to check out linux laptop compatibility, and be forewarned
of any potential issues, check out http://www.linux-laptop.net (For
example, they have several pages listed on the T42)
