/dev/hda:
 Timing cached reads: 1748 MB in 2.00 seconds = 872.82 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 186 MB in 3.02 seconds = 61.66 MB/sec

And on my work box:

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads: 2412 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1206.18 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 160 MB in 3.03 seconds = 52.78 MB/sec

Muhaha. Both of those, of course, are at UDMA5.

What is the processor speed of this box? As Greg noted, your tests were only
running at UDMA 2. That might be all the box is capable of...how recent a
motherboard are we dealing with here?
