hostname

I'm installing qmail on debian but running into a problem with my
hostname. I checked all the related files and it is set properly.
But when I run hostname -s I get localhost as the output.

My qmail install in choking because it wants a fqdn :

The hostname -f command returned: $1

Your system needs to have a fully qualified domain name (fqdn) in
order to install the var-qmail packages.

Can someone advise?
