skype vs phone card

I've got skype working on Fedora Core 3. Called my parents with it
yesterday. My dad says it sounds better then my cell phone.

Out of curiosity I checked the rates on my MCI calling card. I think I
got this one at Costco. Any way, it claims 2.99 cents in the US.

The skype rate for the US is 2 cents a minute. The skype rate for Alaska
is 2.8 cents a minute.

I don't know if the MCI calling card rate includes Alaska. If it does
I'm not saving much on instate calls. For the rest of the US I only save
a penny.

Why should I use skype if my calling card gives me almost the same
rate?
