Gimp-Print ?

I have a Epson R300 inkjet printer. This printer is supported by
gimp-print 4.2.7, except for the cd/dvd label function. To get the
label function I need gimp-print >= version 5.0 beta2. The source is
available but I don't know how to proceed since gimp-print (v. 4.2.7) +
depends is already installed (and working) on my box. Do I need to
uninstall v.4.27 ? Suggestions welcome :-)
