Greetings Whitty,

Amateur radio is very alive and well in Anchorage and surely all of
Alaska forby. Check out the following sites:

  http://www.alaskalist.com/VEC/localarc.html

This will give you an idea of the scope of organized amateur radio in
Alaska. Note: the Anchorage Amateur Radio Club (AARC) web site is down.

  http://www.alaskalist.com/VEC/vecmain.html

This is the home page of the Anchorage Volunteer Examiner Coordinator
which gives the examinations all the way from Technitian (no code)
through Amateur Extra Class.

I have held my call since 1964 (I missed renewing for about a year, but
was able to renew because I was within the two year grace period). My
call is KL7FHX.

I used to be on HF but now all I have time for is the local VHF repeater
stuff.

There are study materials. You just missed this month's meeting, but you
can contact me off list if you want to pursue this matter.

fgd.
