Kernel 2.6 may not be stable!!!

I hope I’m not sounding the alarm for nothing but after reading slashdot this morning I'm a little concerned. According to a post on slashdot there will be no 2.7 kernel for testing. Linus and the maintainers of the 2.6 kernel are continuing to use 2.6 for development.

The following was taken from: http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/3513

"Andrew's vision, as expressed at the summit, is that the mainline kernel will be the fastest and most feature-rich kernel around, but not, necessarily, the most stable. Final stabilization is to be done by distributors (as happens now, really), but the distributors are expected to merge their patches quickly."

What do they mean, “not, necessarily, the most stable” and “final stabilization is to be done by the distributors”?

I consider my self an advanced Linux users but this is getting out of hand. The kernel already has more options then I know what to do with. Now I’ve got to figure out what makes up a stable kernel.

Well, if someone figures out what’s going on here let me know. I’ve got to go compile a kernel.
