SATA raid is definitely very cool... You need to watch the controllers =
and
be willing to be a PICKY shopper. Many SATA raids are offering RAID 1.. =
IMHO
is worthless...=20

Try getting a decent RAID 2,3, or 4.
It'll definitely be worth the $$$ invested...

Supposedly the SATA is faster with a higher bandwith then SCSI... Of =
course
I haven't seen any SATA's on any production machines yet, but I've
definitely been hearing the grumbling... :) My biggest concern is the =
heat
that these systems produce... So I'll be on the wait and see...

Anybody remember the first 10Mb Hard Drives...=20
And the Heat issues from those... UGggg...

Just returned from a trip south. I talked to a guy who was working with=20
a BIG unit (several TB). He was very impressed with both price and=20
performance. I don't know the brand of the gear. Another person had set=20
up ATA with software raid, and was a happy camper.

Ok, my fountain of knowledge, what kind of experience do any of you have
with SATA Raid controllers? I'm researching a new system that I'm going =
to
put together for a client and have no experience with anything other =
than
SCSI and IDE. I've heard great things about SATA, however, and so would
love to have your collective input...

Thanks!
Kate
