Suns Java

I have to agree with Suns Marketing :-(

If they were to put "Linux" on it, it would scare many folks off. The
disintegration of a Linux standard (Java too!) has newbies scared. And the
Linux community has been working hard on install setup - but (and a big
BUT...) library compatibility is still in the distance. Until programs
compile (or don't need to be re-compiled) across platforms with ease, folks
arn't going to want to mess with it.

While Java is nowhere near a perfect answer for compatibility and security,
its certainly got people looking for a better answer; and thats a good thing.
I have not seen any JAVA virus busting code that requires an emergency
update.

My MicroSoft powered HP 90 day old laptop is now at MS critical update #28.
The last update was 7mb!

Since the casual computer user does not know that Java also has
incompatibility issues, Sun is hoping their name will keep the rumors under
the carpet - this is also a good thing. Folk will buy a "Sun" computer and
fall in love with it. Only to find out later that they have been using the
wonderful LINUX! And we will have sneaked in a new convert.

This may be the start of a good thing. If enough Java utilities come out to
support a Java pseudo OS then "Open Software" here we come!
